Following the mass-killings, the Kurds began another uprising. While the Kurds did manage to expel the Iraqi
forces for a short time, when they returned, they counter-attacked with full force and drove the Kurds to Turkey and Iran.
To help the Kurds, a few countries (including the United States) got together and created a "safe haven" in the northern part
of Iraqi Kurdistan. The "haven" still exists to this day.
